Design Within Reach: The Paul Smith Collection
Made exclusively for Design Within Reach, we present a collection of iconic mid-century furniture, upholstered in Paul Smith + Maharam fabrics.
Paul’s passion for design extends well beyond clothes. In fact, if something is carefully and cleverly designed, he’ll probably like it no matter what it is: a car, a building, a knife and fork, a pen, a wall clock. But furniture has always been of particular interest to Paul, given its scope for expression in design. For the last hundred years or so, furniture – and the chair especially – has been a key creative medium for the world’s foremost designers and artists.
A company which deeply understands the importance of a good bit of furniture is Design Within Reach, a US-based retailer formed in 1998 with the goal of furnishing (quite literally) their clientele with items from the world’s most exceptional designers, makers, and craftspeople. And it’s with great pleasure that we announce a new collaborative project: the Paul Smith Collection, a capsule of custom furniture, available exclusively from Design Within Reach.
The collection features chairs and sofas – including historically significant pieces by Knoll and Herman Miller, alongside original designs by DWR – each upholstered in a fabric from the Paul Smith + Maharam collection. A storied and highly respected fabric maker, we are lucky to have been working with Maharam for a long time, creating an ever-growing range of fabrics which represent Paul’s love of colour, pattern, and – of course – stripes.
A broader selection of furniture from the Paul Smith Collection was sent to Desert Wave House, an architectural masterpiece in the Palm Desert, California. Working with Boutique Homes, DWR have temporarily redecorated the extraordinary modernist house, filling it with a range of Paul Smith and DWR products.
The Paul Smith Collection is available exclusively from Design Within Reach, who are US-based. If, however, you are interested in an item of furniture and live elsewhere, please get in touch.
